Kauai Essentials and Recommendations

It is often interesting to hear people’s favorites. It’s even more interesting to hear why, though often you find reasons difficult to describe. Sometimes you just like something because you like it.

Here are some of my favorites on Kauai

Favorite Shave Ice

No doubt about it, it’s Hawaiian Blizzard Shave Ice in Kapaa. You can find Aaron out in front of the Big Save between about 2pm and 5pm. Look for the red and white shave ice stand near the “makai” (ocean-side) entrance. Definitely worth the trip.

Favorite Burgers

Bubba Burgers. Found both on Kauai’s North Shore in Hanalei, and on the East in Kapa’a.

Favorite Hotel

The Princeville Hotel, now the St. Regis. It’s lost a little bit of its aloha after been bought by St. Regis, but still beautiful. After that, its hard to choose between the Hyatt and the Marriott.

Favorite Place to Rent Beach Equipment

-The Pedal N Paddle in Hanalei. Friendly service, good rates.

Favorite Golf Course

Princeville Makai Course. Not too hard, but hard enough. Not too crowded. Fabulous view.

Favorite Beach

Ke’e. I love this beautiful little lagoon at the end of the road. But it’s getting to be so crowded that I might have to choose a new favorite.

Favorite Massage Therapist

Yemaya at Malama Pu’uwai Studio.

Favorite Timeshare Resort

Pahio Shearwater or Pahio at Ka ‘Eo Kai.

Favorite Luau: Smith’s.

There are lots of great things about other luaus, but my family has decided they enjoy this one most. There is definitely a strong feeling of ‘ohana there.

Favorite Women’s Clothing Store

Tropical Tantrum. Wish I could afford to buy all my clothes there.
Favorite Rental Car Company: Budget. Quick service, easy to work with and clean cars. I have rented from them many times. I didn’t appreciate them enough until I rented a car from Alamo….
